First Lines Friday #4

The 'First Lines Friday' Meme is a weekly theme whereby you chose any book at random off of your shelf (could be your TBR or currently reading) and you write the first sentence of that book into a post on your blog etc.  The idea of this is to see whether readers will be intrigued to read the book from reading the first line in the book just like most of us judge a book by its beautiful cover or a wonderful and extremely loved author.

Head over to Wandering Words to check out more details or ask any questions.

"The stretch of road that leads out of the city, past Hazy Harbor and into the town of Tedia, is perhaps the most unpleasant in the world."

Read on to find out what book this first line if from...

If you haven't already guessed...
Goodreads | Amazon

The Reptile Room by Lemony Snicket

                            Goodreads synopsis

"If you have picked up this book with the hope of finding a simple and cheery tale, I'm afraid you have picked up the wrong book altogether. the story may seem cheery at first, when the Baudelaire children spend time in the company of some interesting reptiles and a giddy uncle, but don't be fooled. If you know anything at all about the unlucky Baudelaire children, you already know that even pleasant events lead down the same road to misery.

In fact, within the pages you now hold in your hands, the three siblings endure a car accident, a terrible smell, a deadly serpent, a long knife, a large brass reading lamp, and the re-appearance of a person they'd hoped never to see again.
I am bound to record these tragic events, but you are free to put this book back on the shelf and seek something lighter.
With all due respect,
Lemony Snicket."

I chose this book for this weeks 'First Line Friday' as it is my current read so was the nearest book to me at the time of writing this (although I haven't actually started reading this yet)

Let me know if you've read this or if you guessed the line. Or even if you've participated in this particular meme and want to share your blog post with me in the comments below

😊💙
